Kindness

is the act of giving, or helping another. Kindness is underpinned by empathy and compassion. Empathy is the capacity to identify and share the feelings of another person. Compassion is the desire to help others feel better and happier.

Simple Ways to Practise Kindness

  • Give someone a compliment
  • Encourage someone who is having difficulty
  • Share a snack, or a toy
  • Smile at people you see on your way to school or work
  • Hold a door open for someone
  • Say "it's my pleasure" when someone thanks you
  • Let someone else go before you in the line
  • Say "good morning" or "hello" to a visitor at your school or place of work
  • Give away a toy or a game that you don't play with anymore
  • Visit an elderly relative
  • Offer to walk a neighbour's dog
  • Invite someone to play who is on their own
  • Offer to help younger pupils with their reading
  • Make a card for someone who is ill
  • Do a deliberate act of kindness for someone you know
  • Donate 10% of your pocket money to a good cause
